Daily Slot Canyon Tours, New for 2010:
Departing 8:30 daily from Broken Bow RV Park - 495 W Main Street in Escalante
No need to reserve in advance, just show up ready for hiking! For fewer than 3 people the price is $180. For 3 or more it is $70 per person. Total group size limit is 12. We will pick a tour from the following 2 hikes based on current conditions and group desire. Both of these tours are also available as private trips.
Peekaboo and Spooky: Our most popular slot canyon day hike. This loop hike visits three narrow canyons with several natural bridges. Participants will squeeze through 16 inch wide water carved sandstone slots including several challenging obstacles. Fun for the whole family, kids love it!
Zebra and Tunnel: Though less popular, Zebra features some of the most striking colored bands in the region. The slot is short but spectacular and is a favorite of photographers. The hike is an easy stroll suitable for all ages. As an added bonus, we will visit Tunnel; the name says it all. This hike frequently requires wading/swimming - please call for current conditions.
Other Cool Hikes (Some slots, some not): Coyote Gulch and Jacob Hamblin Arch: $220 for first two, then $90 per person, takes most of the day
This is one of the most gorgeous canyons around. The canyon walls are enormous and in some places even overhang the opposite walls. With a year-round stream, Cottonwood Trees and hanging gardens, this canyon should not be missed. This hike visits the upper half of Coyote Gulch, to see the whole canyon requires an overnight trip, read more about it here.
Egypt 3: $180 for first two, then $80 per person, takes about a half day
The tightest slot on our menu, Egypt 3 is not for the rotund or claustrophobic! With sections that Aaron has trouble squeezing through, this is as narrow as it gets. So, if you are skinny and want to see an amazing canyon, give it a try.
Red Breaks: $220 for first two, then $90 per person, takes most of a day
One of our longer day hikes, Red Breaks is a not "too narrow" canyon featuring interesting banded sandstone, some short climbing obstacles and impressive views. If time permits, we'll see a seldom visited and unique geologic feature that looks like the picture to the right.
Neon Canyon and the Golden Cathedral: $220 for first two, then $90 per person, takes most of a day - let's start early
The Golden Cathedral is a popular alcove that has earned its name. With two big holes through the alcove roof, a zen-garden-like atmosphere surrounded by towering red sandstone walls, there is just something special about this place. Come and see. We'll also examine a huge petroglyph panel. To read more about an overnight trip click here.
Escalante Natural Bridge, Arch and Pictographs: $180 for first two, then $80 per person, takes about a half day
From the Escalante River Bridge Trailhead, we'll head upriver via a side trail that visits the "100 Hands" panel. We'll descend to the river where we will be in and out of the water for the remainder of the hike. A large natural bridge and arch accompany the spectacular canyon scenery. If time and interest permit we'll also visit Sand Creek, a beautiful narrow canyon.
Phipps Wash: $180 for first two, then $80 per person, takes about a half day
From the Escalante River Bridge Trailhead, we'll head downriver to visit massive Phipps Arch and delicate Coyote Natural Bridge.
Upper Calf Creek Falls: $160 for first two, then $70 per person, takes a short half day - also suitable for an afternoon trip
A 100 foot waterfall with clear, cold water, an oasis in the desert! We'll descend steep slickrock to great swimming holes for those hot summer days and leisurely make our way back to the trailhead after cooling off in the brisk water.
